Hotel 20° SUD in Mauritius, Small Haven of Luxury in a Truly Charming Environment and Tropical Setting

June 9, 2008

Hotel 20° SudPlanning a honeymoon vacation? Probably you’re facing the same dilemma I did: too many options, or too few. Lots of great places to go, but none that really stands out as the one. You can make it easy on yourself by checking out Hotel 20° Sud in Mauritius.

Mauritius is a small island a few hundred miles (800km) off the east coast of Madagascar, near the Tropic of Capricorn. But it doesn’t matter what astrological sign you might be, because this location is heaven on Earth.

Pure white sandy beaches and blue-green water that has never seen a drop of oil, other than maybe suntanning oil. Skies so clear you’ll have lots of chances to wear those stunning hats you wouldn’t risk back in the States. But you can still go barefoot and stroll, or slip on some shoes that are perfect for parasailing or riding scooters.

If it’s high speed you want, Hotel 20° Sud owns a 350hp speedboat. Or, you can enjoy one of their leisurely dining cruises in the bay. Maybe you’d like to take your own private boat for a picnic? Can’t get that at just any luxury resort, I can tell you.

This small, charming and refined hotel located in a coconut grove is the crown jewel that fits perfectly in this vacation spot that treats every visitor like royalty.

Sure, lots of places have spas. But you don’t get Confortzone Italian spa products at most of them. They don’t all offer Turkish baths that are the real deal, either. The Belgian proprietors - Michel and Anne Bourgeois - know one when they see it. They’ve spent time at the Moroccan Riads and the small hotels near the Provence.

Once you’ve been pampered with a relaxing massage, you can head out for some shopping. That’s another thing you don’t find at every resort island. Here, you can boat over to the Grand Baie - the little “St Trop” of Mauritius - in a few minutes. They’ve got lots of little boutique shops there, and several craft markets. You can pick up something to take back from your honeymoon that you just couldn’t get anywhere else in the world.

St. Tropez, France is beautiful, for sure. But Mauritius is uncrowded and the hotel is drenched with luxury. With 29 rooms decorated with antiquities and furnishings from the Belgian interior designer FLAMANT, you’re sure to find an atmosphere of warmth, and unique personal touch.

See for yourself by looking at some of the photos. But only check them out if you want your honeymoon location search to be over. You won’t have to look anywhere else once you see Hotel 20° Sud.

I love to hear your experiences if you spent your honeymoon or held your wedding in this hotel. This will help all couples who are currently planning a wedding and looking for a wedding and/or honeymoon destination.
